India’s top largest zoos

India being the largest country is a home to many flora and fauna. From
Kanyakumari to Kashmir, one can find different diversity in landscape, climate,
habits, and culture. This country consists of many zoos that have also gained
popularity and is also the place of family destinations.
The main purpose of the zoos is to protect species and animals. They also play the
important role in educating people about endangered species. Here presenting the
list of top largest zoos in India that are known to many people and also receive many
Junagadh Zoo
This zoo is also known as Sakkarbaug Garden and is the oldest one in Gujarat. It got
established while there was the rule of Nawabs in Junagadh. It took the initiative to
help the rare species by starting the breeding program. Animals that can be found
here are lions, tigers, elephants, leopards, birds, etc.

Nainital Zoo
This zoo is called as Bharat Ratna Pant Zoo that is located in the mountains of Sher
ka Danda. The zoo is 1 km far from the bus station of Tallital. This is the only zoo in
Uttarakhand. As the zoo is in the higher altitude, it serves snow leopard, Siberian
tiger, barking deer, eagle, black bear, fox, owl, wolf, etc.

Delhi Zoo
The zoo in Delhi is situated near the old fort and is spread over 214 acres. This zoo
consists of more than 2,000 species of birds and animals. It is well ordered and
animals remain in large grounds making it the largest zoo in India. Some of the
species that can be found here are gibbon, hillock, white tiger, and buck.

Darjeeling Zoo
This is also called as the Padmaja Zoological Park that is situated on the slopes of
Jawahar and it got recognized as the largest zoo in the year 2008. This is the home
of rare species like red panda, snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, Tibetan wolf,
Siberian tiger, etc.

Nandankanan Zoo
This is known as the botanical garden that is situated in Bhubaneswar within the
Chandak forest. The zoo is spread over the area of 400 hectares. It is famous
because of the white tigers that contain botanical garden. The main attraction of the
zoo is lion safari. Some of the rare are Hippopotamus, Wild ass and Manipuri Deer.
